Tips for Growing African American Hair

By

Introduction

If you have been growing African American hair then you may have come across a number of reasons why this could be a problem.

The truth is that there is no reason why you cannot grow your hair long!

However, you also need to remember that it could take longer for you to see the results you really want to see, due to the unique makeup of your hair.

You may feel as if you are not experiencing enough natural hair growth, and if this is the case then try following these simple tips to get things going again. These may help to explain your lack of growth and get you back on track towards your goals.

Understanding Your Hair Type

Everyone's hair is different, so you'll need to take some time to learn about what works for you and what doesn't. However, there are a number of hair problems that can make growing African American hair a little difficult. Here are the top three growth issues:

1) Low Hair Growth - This is a basic problem and can happen for a number of reasons. No matter what kind of hair you have, the top reason for this happening is your diet. Make sure you have enough vitamins in your diet and eat balanced foods.

2) Shrinkage - This is a problem common to those who have African American hair. Since the curls are so tight, growth is very slow and it will shrink within the curl. If you straighten your hair you will see results faster - but try to avoid chemical treatments (see below).

3) Breakage - This happens for a number of reasons, like not getting your hair trimmed, brushing it badly, chemicals on the hair and more.

Tips for Keeping Healthy Hair

Growing African American hair has rules similar to growing any kind of hair - to keep healthy and keep your hair healthy as best you can, so that healthy hair growth will follow.

Avoid Chemicals

Try to avoid any hair care products that are based on harsh chemicals. Instead, opt for naturally made products and use a hair vitamin to keep it healthy.

Getting Rid of Damaged Hair

Before you start your new hair-growing journey it's wise to get rid of all the hair that's already been damaged. This will pave the way for new and healthy hair growth. This means getting a hair cut so that all split ends are done - this will encourage your hair to grow.

Straightening

If you normally get your hair chemically straightened then I advise you try to avoid this. And if your hair has also been coloured then definitely stay away! That's because these treatments are bad for your hair on their own, let alone when you're trying to get your hair to grow.

Conclusion

Growing African American hair is possible, so long as you bear in mind the factors mentioned above. You are now in a much better position to get things started, so make those changes today!

I have not used a relaxer in my hair for the longest because I cannot maintain the effects of it. I went natural and I am loving it and I still can wear my hair straight. It is the healthiest I have ever seen or known it to be.

Along with stress, toxins in the environment, exposure to the sun, cigarette smoke (actively or passively inhaled), excess alcohol consumption and lack of sleep sometimes makes our bodies work overtime to maintain a standard of marginal health - not optimal.

These factors may lead to a decline in our cosmetic appearance, including our hair, being compromised and weakened. Because the brain considers our hair to be expendable and not essential to maintain our health, at least our physical health, it tends to be the last part of the body to receive nutrients from the foods we eat.

The result of this is dull, lifeless hair, or even retarded (slowed) hair growth. What should enhance our best features has become a deterrent to our beauty as individuals and the way others possibly perceive our health and how attractive we appear to them. This does not have to be so. Remember, people subconsciously use triggers like how healthy your face or hair is to make a subconscious judgment about your overall health.

Taking proper, daily hair vitamins and minerals plays a huge role in keeping your hair healthy. Any nutritional deficiencies can lead to thinning hair or even total baldness. It is a well-known fact that an under-active thyroid can result in frizzy or brittle hair while an overactive thyroid turns hair greasy and limp. The goal is proper supplementation and nutritional balance
